Bishop Prof John
Odhiambo Okinda HSc
A Voice of Faith, Leadership, and Transformation
Bishop Okinda has emerged as a bold and prophetic voice in Kenya, consistently reminding the Church of its
sacred duty to confront societal injustices. Unafraid to speak truth to power, he has strongly condemned
corruption, describing it as a serious obstacle to Kenya’s development. His call for transparency and integrity
in anti-corruption efforts reflects his commitment to justice and fairness, while cautioning against politicization
of such initiatives (NCCK, 2022).
In his leadership, Bishop Okinda has initiated practical steps to uplift communities, such as strengthening
Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) within the PEFA Church to enhance members’
livelihoods. He often draws insightful comparisons to thriving nations like South Korea, urging Kenya to
embrace responsible governance and efficient management of public resources (PEFA Church, 2021).
Demonstrating his deep commitment to education and youth empowerment, Bishop Okinda founded Bishop
Okinda High School, a vision born from his passion to transform lives through learning. In a remarkable act of
generosity, he later donated the institution to the Ministry of Education, ensuring its continued growth and
accessibility. In recognition of his exemplary service to the nation, he received Head of State Commendation
(HSC) recommendations from President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2019 (Presidential Press Service, 2019).

Inspiring Political Awareness and National Cohesion
Bishop Okinda skillfully balances the Church’s apolitical stance with a strong call for civic responsibility. He has urged Kenyans to elect visionary, value-driven leaders who prioritize development and uphold national
dignity. Ahead of the 2022 general elections, he courageously opposed candidates promoting controversial
agendas, including the legalization of bhang, standing firm for moral clarity (Daily Nation, 2022).
In the aftermath of the elections, Bishop Okinda emerged as a unifying voice, calling for sobriety,
Bishop Dr. John Okinda: A Respected Voice for Ethical Leadership and Societal Transformation
reconciliation, and service-oriented leadership. His consistent focus on real issues-such as the high cost of
living and food insecurity-demonstrates his deep compassion for the Kenyan people (Citizen Digital, 2022).
Expanding Global Impact
Bishop Okinda’s influence is not confined to Kenya’s borders. In 2016, he made a historic visit to the PEFA
Church in Malden, Massachusetts, USA, during Friend’s Appreciation Day-becoming the first top PEFA
leader to minister in the Boston region. His international engagements reflect his vision of a globally
connected and spiritually vibrant church (PEFA USA, 2016).
Defender of Biblical Values and Moral Integrity
A steadfast advocate of traditional Christian teachings, Bishop Okinda has firmly defended the biblical
definition of marriage and family. He publicly opposed the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the registration of
same-sex associations, describing it as both immoral and a departure from Kenya’s cultural and constitutional
values. His unwavering stand is anchored in Scripture and a strong belief in God-ordained societal order
(Standard Media, 2023).

and global ministry, this track record reflects a life committed to
transformation and service to God and humanity.
PEFA Church
Bishop John Okinda’s three plus decades of active ministry in Kenya have been marked by
profound and transformative impact, particularly in Migori County. As the Bishop and
President of the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA), he has not only
guided spiritual growth but also championed community development and peace.
Msomi Group of Schools
A cornerstone of his legacy is the establishment, alongside Rev. Pamela Okinda, Msomi
Group of Schools in Migori. This institution has been a beacon of hope, providing quality
education to thousands of young people, including countless orphans, thereby breaking
cycles of poverty and fostering a brighter future for the region’s most vulnerable.
Bishop Okinda Highschool
Further
solidifying his commitment to education, Bishop Okinda founded Bishop Okinda High
School. This community-focused institution significantly impacted the local immediate
community before he graciously donated it to the government of Kenya, ensuring its
continued and expanded benefit for generations to come.
Pastoral Ministry
Beyond education, Bishop Okinda’s leadership has been pivotal in shaping spiritual leaders.
He has supported and raised hundreds of pastors, demonstrating a transformative
leadership impact within the ministry across Kenya. These empowered leaders continue to
spread his vision of holistic development.
Bishop Okinda’s Ministry
A prominent voice in national discourse, Bishop Okinda is recognized as a leading crusader
for peace and unity in Kenya. His consistent calls for sobriety and reason, particularly during
politically sensitive times, underscore his unwavering commitment to national cohesion. He
has publicly urged citizens to seek legal recourse for electoral disputes rather than resort to
chaos, emphasizing the importance of protecting vulnerable populations during times of
unrest. As Vice Chairman of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), he has
amplified the church’s role in advocating for justice, transparency, and the well-being of all
Kenyans.
Bishop Okinda’s ministry is a powerful testament to how faith-based leadership can drive
